Geese Management

Goose Management Information

There is a resident population of geese in and around Moonachie.  They are our neighbors, but steps are taken to make sure the population does not get out of control.  Every spring, nests are located and removed to keep the population down.

There are a number of dangers associated with too many geese.

Air safety:

Remember Miracle on the Hudson?  Where a bird flew into a plane engine and caused the plane to have to make an emergency landing?  We want to prevent that from happening around Teterboro for the safety of the people on the plane and the people on the ground.

Storm water issues:

Goose poop pollutes our water.  When it rains, the goose feces runs into the storm drains and causes fecal matter to harm the water.  We must keep our water as clean as possible.

Recreation fields:

Our ball fields are an attractive buffet table for geese.  Their excrement carries bacteria and germs.  We use a goose-poop-scooper to remove the feces from the fields, but it is an ongoing battle.
