Geese Banding

GOOSE BANDING

To track our resident goose population, the Port Authority has instituted a goose identification program.  Geese are trapped and fitted with a neck collar  (non invasive) that has a unique identifier on it.  All of the geese around Teterboro are fitted with a yellow band with black letters.  The letters start with KA or KB.

70 goose nests have been found around Teterboro.

If you see a goose with a band, log onto Reportband.gov and fill out the form.  This will help us track the bird population and location.  Geese can live between 20 and 30 years, and most (non-migrating) geese don’t travel more than 2 miles from their home location.  If you see a bird with an orange neck collar with white letters, it is a migrating goose from Canada.
